Conçu par Herbert J. Krapp, l'Ambassador Theatre a ouvert ses portes le 11 février 1921 sous la propriété des Shuberts avec une production de la comédie musicale "The Rose Girl". Les Shuberts ont finalement vendu la propriété en 1935, qui a ensuite été transformée en studio de cinéma et de télévision pour NBC et le réseau de télévision DuMont. À cette époque, il était connu sous le nom de Ambassador Tele-Theatre, jusqu'à ce que les Shuberts reprennent possession de la propriété en 1956 et le réintègrent sous le nom de Broadway Theatre. L’Ambassador a été désigné monument historique de la ville de New York pour la préservation.
