Musical Original
2) Cleveland Street: The Musical (Original)

Première preview: 28 April 2011 Première: 28 April 2011 Dernière: 29 May 2011
Compositeur: Matt Devereaux • Parolier: Glenn Chandler • Libettiste: Glenn Chandler • Metteur en scène: Tim McArthur • Chorégraphe: Tim McArthur • Avec: Cast: Paul Brangan (John Saul), Josh Boyd-Rochford (Hammond/Abberline), Fanni Compton (Caroline), Adam Elliott (Ernest Thickbroom), Ashley Martin (Henry Newlove), Michael Anderson (Thomas Swinscow), Joe Sheffer (Lord Euston/Lord Somerset)
Commentaire: Based on a true scandal, the story is narrated by John Saul and told in flashback. The songs are presented in a music-hall and vaudeville style and accompanied by an onstage three-piece band. With a cast of just seven doubling several roles, this led to some confusion as to who was supposed to be who at various points. The show itself was also criticised for not having a clear purpose: was it a camp entertainment, or a satire on Victorian hypocrisy ? It was felt to be unsatisfactory on both counts. (plus)

Commentaire: The first British production was a two week run at the Barons Court Theatre, directed by David Phipps-Davis in October 2009. This production was re-worked by Christopher Gatelli, incorporating new material especially written for London, and presented Above the Stag in January 2010. The critical reaction was not very enthusiastic. (plus)
