May Wine est un musical avec un livret de Frank Mandel, des paroles d’Oscar Hammerstein II et une musique de Sigmund Romberg. Le spectacle a été adapté du roman The Happy Alienist d’Eric von Stroheim et Wallace Smith.

On suit l’histoire d’un professeur de psychologie riche et distrait, Johann Volk, qui tombe amoureux de Marie (la Baronne von Schlewitz). Le maléfique Baron Kuno Adelhorst, qui aime aussi Marie, essaie d’obtenir l’argent du Professeur en le faisant épouser. Mais après leur mariage, elle en vient à aimer le professeur et ne veut pas le faire chanter. Cependant, le Professeur pense qu’il a été trompé et tente de tirer sur Marie. Il ne lui fait pas de mal, et tout finit bien. L’intrigue secondaire implique le modèle d’un artiste, Friedl, qui veut l’attention d’un homme et l’obtient du Baron.
