Genèse: The musical opened on 3 June 1963 at the Palace Theatre, Manchester prior to the West End premiere on 4 July 1963 at the Saville Theatre and closed on 27 February 1965 following 694 performances.[1] Peter Coe directed, choreography was by Leo Kharibian, scenic design was by Sean Kenny and costumes were by Roger Furse. The Broadway premiere, produced by David Merrick, was at the 46th Street Theatre on 4 October 1965. It closed on 18 November after 56 performances. The New York production was directed by Peter Coe, choreographed by Lynne, and featured Harry Secombe as Pickwick, Charlotte Rae as Mrs. Bardell, Roy Castle as Sam Weller, Nancy Haywood as Isabella, Michael Logan as Mr. Wardle, and Peter Bull as Sgt. Buzfuz. The cast for the first production in Manchester and London featured Harry Secombe as Pickwick, Jessie Evans as Mrs. Bardell and Teddy Green as Sam Weller. The Pickwickians Tracy Tupman, Augustus Snodgrass and Nathaniel Winkle were played by Gerald James, Julian Orchard and Oscar Quitak respectively. Anton Rodgers was notable as Mr. Jingle, and Robin Wentworth played Tony Weller. Rachel, Isabella and Emily were played by Hilda Braid, Vivienne St.George and Jane Sconce respectively with Sam Weller's 'Girl' Mary performed superbly by Dilys Watling. The remaining cast and Company were equally impressive.[citation needed] One of the better known songs from the score is "If I Ruled The World".

Genèse: With this project, Bricusse and Newley had hoped to match the success of their 1962 hit Stop the World - I Want to Get Off. The show toured the UK in anticipation of a London opening, but audience interest was minimal, and it never reached the West End. American theatre producer David Merrick saw it in Liverpool and, aware production costs could be kept low, decided to bring it to the States, starting with a lengthy national tour. An original cast recording was released by RCA Victor long before the show reached New York City, and Tony Bennett's version of "Who Can I Turn To?" proved to be a hit that kept the show in the public's awareness. The tour was so successful that most of Merrick's investment was paid back while the show was on the road. It was the 1964 UK production of the musical in which Elaine Paige made her first professional appearance on stage. After seven previews, the Broadway production, directed by Newley and choreographed by Gillian Lynne, opened on May 16 at the Shubert Theatre, where it ran for 231 performances. The cast included Newley as Cocky, Cyril Ritchard as Sir, and newcomer Sally Smith as Kid, with Joyce Jillson in a supporting role. Conductor Herbert Grossman served as Music Director.
Résumé: Resembling a music hall production more than a book musical, the allegorical plot examines the maintenance of the status quo between the upper and lower classes of British society in the 1960s. The two main characters are Sir and Cocky. Since Sir forever is changing the rules of the game of life, downtrodden young Cocky always gets the short end of the stick. Assisting Sir is his eager disciple Kid, anxious to pick up bits of wisdom while helping keep Cocky in his place.

Staying with the known facts of events but gently fabricating circumstances, this is an exciting and fast-moving glimpse at a slice of English history. Songs in Henry's Wives include "The Grape and the Vine" "The Perfect Woman" "Kings and Clowns" and "Husbands and Wives". The musical can be staged quite simply with minimum casting or can be elaborate with added chorus, as circumstances allow.The musical was first seen in London under the title Kings and Clowns, featuring Frank Finlay, Elizabeth Counsell and Dilys Watling.

Genèse: Beyond the Rainbow is an Italian musical comedy which was adapted from the English novel "After Me The Deluge", by David Forrest. The show was first produced in Rome in 1974, where it ran for 3½ years. The London production opened at the Adelphi Theatre on the 9th November 1978 starring the original Father Silvestro - Johnny Dorelli. Roy Kinnear played the Mayor.
Résumé: The play is a comedy set in a small Italian mountain village of San Crispino, where the young priest, Father Silvestro, receives a very unusual telephone call which causes chaos in the village, amongst the inhabitants - Clementina, who is madly in love with the priest, her father, the miserly mayor, Toto, the village simpleton and Consolation, a lady of somewhat doubtful virtue, who arrives there on a dowry fund-raising trip. These unusual ingredients result in a musical show of refreshing and different entertainment.

Genèse: The musical opened on 22 October 1988 at the Northcott Theatre, in Exeter, England, and ran for a limited season of five weeks. It then played at the Cambridge Theatre on Seven Dials in London's Covent Garden area from 24 April 1989 to 8 July 1989. During this time there were tube strikes (public transport) which Ron Moody worked into the script through ad-libs. A revival tour (in a slightly revised version) opened at the Bristol Old Vic on 16 March 1993 with Robert Powell in the title role, Roy Barraclough as Watson and Louise English as Bella Spellgrove. In April 2013 Leslie Bricusse worked with the Morphic Graffiti theatre company to revise and revamp the show within a Victorian Music Hall setting at Hoxton Hall in London, which is, itself a 145 year old grade II listed Music Hall Theatre. The revised version, entitled 'The Revenge of Sherlock Holmes' included some new material never previously performed. This new version opened to critical acclaim. Sherlock Holmes: The Musical was at least the second musical to be based on Sherlock Holmes, after Baker Street in 1965. It is also one of over 50 stage productions based on the Holmes character; see adaptations of Sherlock Holmes.

Genèse: The show had its world premiere at the Nissay Theatre in Tokyo, Japan, from 5 through 28 May 2009. The production starred Takeshi Kaga (the original Japanese Jekyll & Hyde) in the title role, Hikaru Asami (Elisabeth) as Roxanne and Kenji Urai (Rudolf, Elisabeth) and Masataka Nakagauchi sharing the part of Christian. It had direction by Kazuya Yamada, music direction by Akihiro Shiota and choreography by Kiyomi Maeda. The lyric translations were provided by Kazuko Matsuoka, with the script translation by Machiko Ryuu. More information is available on the Fuji TV production site (in Japanese). This production also played at Umeda Arts Theater in Osaka, Japan, 3-7 June 2009, and reportedly toured the country. There are also plans to bring Cyrano to the stage in Spain. Spanish singing star Raphael - who headlined the Spanish premiere of Jekyll & Hyde in 2000 - will star. A Spanish concept recording of the show featuring Raphael is in the works. A release date for the album and further details on the production have not been set, and will be forthcoming.
