Nombre :
Première Preview : Friday 02 June 2006
Première : Wednesday 21 June 2006
Dernière : Saturday 26 May 2007
Mise en scène : Harold Prince
Chorégraphie : Rob Ashford
Producteur :
Avec : Matt Rawle (Che), Elena Roger (Evita), Philip Quast (Peron), Lorna Want (Peron’s Mistress), Gary Milner (Magaldi), Jodie Jacobs, Jackie Marks, Gary Milner
Commentaires : This was an outstanding revival. Elena Roger (a genuine Argentinian) was acclaimed for a superb, dazzling performance; the Elena Roger tango-themed choreography was described as sizzingly erotic; the set design by Christopher Oram sumptuously re-created the architectural grandeur of Buenos Aires; Michael Grandage was hailed as one of the UK’s best directors; and, ultimately, the score was recognised as one of the very best by Andrew Lloyd Wber and Tim Rice. This was a triumph and hugely praised, and yet, for some reason, did not succeed at the box office. It closed in May 2007 after just eleven months eleven months.
Commentaires longs: Une très belle version près de 25 ans après l'originale dans une mise en scène simple mais réaliste et émouvante. La distribution est de très haut niverau, ce qui ne gache en rien notre plaisir.
Presse : NICHOLAS DE JONGH du THE EVENING STANDARD: "Dynamic production."
MICHAEL BILLINGTON du THE GUARDIAN : "Decent revival...the show is certainly a great vehicle and the Argentinian Elena Roger rides it in modest triumph...although the show is pleasing to watch, it never achieves the ecstasy one looks for in a musical."
CHARLES SPENCER du THE DAILY TELEGRAPH : "Outstanding revival...Almost every song is memorable."
BENEDICT NIGHTINGALE du THE TIMES: "Riveting show."
PAUL TAYLOR du THE INDEPENDENT: "Powerful production."

Nombre : 26 previews - 337 représentations
Première Preview : Monday 12 March 2012
Première : Thursday 05 April 2012
Dernière : Saturday 26 January 2013
Mise en scène : Michael Grandage
Chorégraphie : Rob Ashford
Producteur :
Avec : Elena Roger (Eva Perón), Ricky Martin (Ché), Michael Cerveris (Juan Perón), Max von Essen (Magaldi), Rachel Potter (Perón's Mistress), Ashley Amber, George Lee Andrews, Eric L. Christian, Kristine Covillo, Colin Cunliffe, Margot de la Barre, Bradley Dean, Melanie Field, Bahiyah Sayyed Gates, Constantine Germanacos, Laurel Harris, Nick Kenkel, Brad Little, Erica Mansfield, Emily Mechler, Sydney Morton, Jessica Lea Patty, Kristie Dale Sanders, Timothy Shew, Michaeljon Slinger, Johnny Stellard, Alex Michael Stoll, Daniel Torres
Commentaires : When the original principals\' contracts were up, the producers chose to close the show rather than replace them. Before deciding to close, they had hoped for a starry set of replacements. Antonio Banderas, Marc Anthony, Enrique Iglesias, Ramin Karimloo and Raul Esparza were all being considered to play Che, though they were not able to reach any deals. Additionally, Lea Michele and Sierra Boggess were possibilities for the role of Eva (although the producers declined to comment on whether or not either actress was approached).
The production failed to recoup its investment. It would have had to play 63 weeks to return the initial investment. It only played 46 weeks. Budgeted at $9M.
Commentaires longs: The second preview was cancelled when a water main burst in the basement of the Marquis Theatre.

Type de série: Revival
Théâtre: Piccadilly Theatre (Londres - Angleterre)
Durée : 1 an 10 mois 2 semaines
Nombre : 773 représentations
Première Preview : Thursday 19 May 2005
Première : Wednesday 01 June 2005
Dernière : Saturday 14 April 2007
Mise en scène : Michael Grandage
Chorégraphie : Rob Ashford
Producteur :
Avec : Ewan McGregor (Sky Masterton), Jane Krakowski (Miss Adelaide), Douglas Hodge (Nathan Detroit), Jenna Russell (Sarah Browne), Martyn Ellis (Nicely-Nicely), Cory English (Benny), Niall Buggy, Norman Bowman, Matthew Cole, Sevan Stephan
Commentaires : Il s'agit de la version co-produite par le Donmar Warehouse. This revival was very different in approach from the hugely successful National Theatre version, but it was generally regarded as equally as exciting and enjoyable. Ewan MacGregor came in for some mixed reviews, and most of the plaudits were for the American choreographer, Rob Ashford, for creating some of the most exciting dancing to be seen in the West End. Cast changes during the run saw Nigel Harman replace Ewan McGregor, and Nigel Lindsay and Neil Morrissey take over as Nathan Detroit. At the end of its first year further cast changes included Patrick Swayze as Nathan Detroit, Adam Cooper as Sky Masterton, Claire Sweeney as Miss Adelaide, and Kelly Price promoted from the chorus to take over as Sarah Brown. The production ran for almost
two years, and closed on April 14th 2007.

All On Her Own: Zoe Wanamaker
Commentaires : Harlequinade will play in repertory with The Winter's Tale. Part of The Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company Season
Presse : "Wanamaker, who, in the monologue All On Her Own, brings a brilliant, layered depth to the role of the newly widowed woman who hits the whisky and pay dirt as she talks to the departed husband who may or may not have killed himself." Paul Taylor for The Independent

"Harlequinade: It’s hardly major Rattigan but it shows actors delightedly sending up a happily vanished theatrical world. All On Her Own: Wanamaker, sprawled over a sofa in humiliating self-abasement, performs the piece with a soul-baring virtuosity that transcends the material and confirms that the Branagh season is devoted to actors." Michael Billington for The Guardian

"Harlequinade: Slight and appealingly silly piece. All On Her Own: [Zoë Wanamaker's] performance is at once fierce and melancholy — finely judged and genuinely sad." Henry Hitchings for The Evening Standard

Version 14

How to succeed ... (2011-02-Al Hirschfeld Theatre-Broadway)

Type de série: Revival
Théâtre: Al Hirschfeld Theatre (Broadway - Etats-Unis)
Durée : 1 an 1 mois 3 semaines
Nombre : 30 previews - 473 représentations
Première Preview : Saturday 26 February 2011
Première : Sunday 27 March 2011
Dernière : Sunday 20 May 2012
Mise en scène : Rob Ashford
Chorégraphie : Rob Ashford
Producteur :
Avec : J. Pierrepont Finch ... Daniel Radcliffe / J. B. Biggley ... John Larroquette / Narrator [recorded voice only] ... Anderson Cooper / Rosemary ... Rose Hemingway / Bud Frump ... Christopher J. Hanke / Hedy LaRue ... Tammy Blanchard / Twimble ... Rob Bartlett / Wally Womper ... Rob Bartlett / Smitty ... Mary Faber / Miss Jones ... Ellen Harve
Commentaires longs: Daniel Radcliffe was featured in a reading in December 2009, with Rob Ashford as director and choreographer. Radcliffe is now starring in the revival, which began previews at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on February 26, 2011, with the official opening on March 27, 2011. Rob Ashford directs and choreographs. Other cast includes Rose Hemingway as Rosemary Pilkington, Mary Faber as Smitty, Tammy Blanchard as Hedy La Rue, Christopher Hanke as Bud Frump, and John Larroquette as J.B. Biggley. Anderson Cooper has recorded the Voice of the Book for the adaptation. The production is nominated for nine 2011 Tony Awards, including for director-choreographer Rob Ashford and as Best Revival of a Musical.
The show cancelled three performances in July, due to Radcliffe's promotional duties for the final Harry Potter film. However, Warner Bros. - the producers of the film - agreed to buy out the theatre for those three nights, so the production wouldn't lose any money.
The June 22nd performance was cancelled due to the death of a stagehand backstage just prior to the start of the show. It was later reported that heroin was found in his workspace.
Presse : "Charm-free revival." Ben Brantley for New York Times / "Radcliffe is a likable but very boyish presence. ... He's waxen and not animated enough. Director-choreographer Rob Ashford's production is bright, cheerful and energetic, that's for sure." Joe Dziemianowicz for New York Daily News / "Radcliffe is back, front and center. ... it's giddy fun to watch him shake his little tush in "Brotherhood of Man." Elisabeth Vincentelli for New York Post / "High-octane, hard-working revival. Radcliffe doesn’t catch fire until late in the second act of Frank Loesser and Abe Burrows’s delectable satire of Big Business, ‘50s-style. But there’s more than enough to divert the eye and ear along the way." Jeremy Gerald for Bloomberg / "The show ends up frenetic and dull all at the same time." David Sheward for Back Stage / "His (Radcliffe's) performance is committed and decent, though not glowing. ...If you regard the show primarily as a showcase for Radcliffe – he's plainly meant to be its draw – the production's shortcomings might not matter so much" Robert Feldberg for The Record / "Daniel Radcliffe succeeds nicely as a musical comedy performer in the okay Broadway revival." Michael Sommers for Newsroom Jersey / "quaint can be charming and agreeable, which is generally where this medium-wattage 50th anniversary revival lands. Charming and agreeable are adjectives that also apply to the performer around whom it was packaged, Daniel Radcliffe." David Rooney for Hollywood Reporter / "Featuring a dazzling Daniel Radcliffe and a strong Broadway debut for John Larroquette, "Business" takes its place at the executive level in a season of musical-comedy hits. .....Production lapses are easily overlooked, thanks to the ministrations of the expert cast led by Radcliffe, who repeatedly brings down the house with a smile and a barely raised brow. " Steven Suskin for Variety

Macbeth (2013-07-St Peter's Church-Manchester)

Type de série: Revival
Théâtre: St Peter's Church (Manchester - Angleterre)
Durée : 2 semaines
Nombre :
Première Preview : Friday 05 July 2013
Première : Friday 05 July 2013
Dernière : Sunday 21 July 2013
Mise en scène : Rob Ashford • Kenneth Branagh
Chorégraphie :
Producteur :

Kenneth Branagh’s return to Shakespeare after more than a decade, featuring Alex Kingston as Lady Macbeth, was a knockout. His interpretation of Macbeth as a good man declining into desolation and despair was exhilarating. Audiences sat inches from the action as sparks actually flew in the heat of battle. Blood, mud, fire and rain filled the space – Hallé St Peter’s, an intimate deconsecrated church in Ancoats. Never before used as a theatre, the space itself also took a starring role.
On the last Saturday of the Festival, more than 5,000 people brought chairs, cushions and picnics to enjoy a live outdoor relay of MACBETH, presented in a central Manchester car park kindly provided by NCP. Tens of thousands more watched in cinemas around the UK and beyond via National Theatre (NT) Live.
Presse : "Fast, furious and unstoppable, time keeps rushing forward in this Macbeth, knocking the breath out of everyone, audience included" The New York Times

Parade (2007-09-Donmar Warehouse-London)

Type de série: Original London
Théâtre: Donmar Warehouse (Londres - Angleterre)
Durée : 2 mois
Nombre :
Première Preview : Friday 14 September 2007

Commentaires : “Parade” was first produced on Broadway in December 1998, with a book by Alfred Uhry (author of “Driving Miss Daisy”) and music by 29 year old Jason Robert Brown. Directed by Harold Prince, it failed at the box office, despite winning six Drama Desk Awards and Tony Awards for best book and best score.
Commentaires longs: It closed after just 39 previews and 84 regular performances. However, it went on to become a success on its USA national tour,
and has become a favourite with regional and college theatres in America.
This British premiere had undergone some re-writing and the inclusion of some new songs, and was much scaled-down compared to Broadway with its
lavish cannons, fire-trucks and the full panoply of the Confederate Memorial Day Parade. The Donmar production gained much in intensity and emotional strength, and was much praised.
Presse : NICHOLAS DE JONGH for THE EVENING STANDARD says, "I cannot remember when the narrative and plotting of a musical last kept me engaged, let alone gripped...Parade makes a devastating, emotional show." PAUL TAYLOR for THE INDEPENDENT says, "An admirably ambitious, musically daring piece that deserves praise for attempting to intertwine the political and the personal, even if in that respect it's uneven as a piece of music drama." MICHAEL BILLINGTON for THE GUARDIAN says, "The music and lyrics of Jason Robert Brown serve to reinforce rather than subvert the gripping story Alfred Uhry's book has to tell....Musicals primarily deal with romance: it is refreshing to find one that deals so eloquently with the roots of southern prejudice."CHARLES SPENCER for THE DAILY TELEGRAGH says, "Here at last comes an original musical of real substance." BENEDICT NIGHTINGALE for THE TIMES says, "A powerful, engrossing evening."

Thoroughly Modern Millie (2003-10-Shaftesbury Theatre-London)

Commentaires : Based on the 1967 film screenplay by Richard Morris, the musical opened on Broadway in April 2002 and ran for 904 performances, winning six Tony Awards. The Broadway production team re-created the show in London, with Maureen Lipman and Marti Webb alternating as Mrs Meers. When Marti Webb left for the “Tell Me on a Sunday” tour, she was replaced with Anita Dobson. During the run Amanda Holden was taken ill, and her understudy Donna Steele took over the role to great acclaim. In spite of mostly good reviews the show failed to catch on with the public, and the show closed in June 2004, after an eight month run.
Commentaires longs: At the 2002 Tony Awards it collected the prize in six categories including Best Musical and Best Actress in a Musical. The creative team from the Broadway production, which includes designer David Gallow and director Michael Mayer, are reunited for the West End show.
Presse : NICHOLAS DE JONGH for THE EVENING STANDARD says, "Sweet musical."

PAUL TAYLOR for THE INDEPENDENT says, "The new songs are generic to the point of anonymity. Holden's Millie is comparably bland."

MICHAEL BILLINGTON for THE GUARDIAN says, "Has the feeling of a factory product."

CHARLES SPENCER for THE TELEGRAPH says, "A second-rate production of a second-rate show."

BENEDICT NIGHTINGALE for THE TIMES says, " The dancing is snappy."

ALASTAIR MACAULAY for THE FINANCIAL TIMES says, "Feels synthetic, no sooner applauded than forgotten."

Commentaires : Part of The Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company Season.
Presse : "Branagh gives an extraordinarily searching portrayal of Leontes, the Sicilian king seized with baseless suspicion that his wife and bosom friend are having an affair... A red-letter day for theatre lovers." Paul Taylor for The Independent

"Although this production ends, unfashionably, in unequivocal forgiveness, it is not afraid to hint at the darker elements in Shakespeare’s fable. Branagh and Dench are surrounded by a first-rate team." Michael Billington for The Guardian

"At the interval I was a little underwhelmed but the second half opens with Dame Judi giving us silvery Time’s speech about the passage of 16 seasons. Her cadences are hypnotic." Quentin Letts for The Daily Mail
