Dispo: Résumé Génèse Liste chansons
She was a girl from Boston with a voice from heaven, who shot through the stars from gospel choir to dance floor diva. But what the world didn’t know was how Donna Summer risked it all to break through barriers, becoming the icon of an era and the inspiration for every music diva who followed.
Genèse: The La Jolla Playhouse presented the musical in a limited engagement from November 7 until December 24, 2017. The musical premiered on Broadway at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on March 28, 2018 (previews), prior to an April 23, 2018 opening. The musical is directed by Des McAnuff, with scenic design by Robert Brill, costumes by Paul Tazewell, lighting by Howell Binkley, projections by Sean Nieuwenhuis, and sound by Gareth Owen. The musical is scheduled to close on Broadway on December 30, 2018 after 289 performances. A tour in North America is planned, starting in September 2019.
Résumé: Told through the dramatic lens of her final concert, Summer: The Donna Summer Musical presents the complexities and conflicts the iconic songwriter and singer faced in her meteoric rise – and descent. Featuring three actresses in the title role and a score with more than 20 of Summer’s classic hits including “Love to Love You, Baby”, “Bad Girls”, and “Hot Stuff”, this electric experience is a moving tribute to the voice of a generation.

"Broadway's 'Doctor Zhivago' is an epic miss." Joe Dziemianowicz for New York Daily News
"The only problem is that the creators of this new musical forgot to include such minor details as compelling characters, thrilling drama or, you know, an inspiring score. At a time of heightened competition on Broadway, 'Doctor Zhivago' is so dull, it may soon be Zhiva-gone." Elisabeth Vincentelli for New York Post
"Des McAnuff’s staging looks expensive but ugly, with cheesy video close‑ups of actors, giant Soviet propaganda posters, eruptions of fire and the occasional explosion or gunshot to wake us up. To Siberia with it." David Cote for Time Out New York
"The folks behind the new Broadway musical 'Doctor Zhivago' promise it is 'sure to steal your heart.' They apparently hope to do so by bludgeoning you into unconsciousness and then cutting you open with a scimitar." Mark Kennedy for The Associated Press
"The show dutifully features all the major characters and dramatic moments familiar from the book and film, but in a breathlessly paced, mechanical style that never manages to engage the heart or mind." Frank Scheck for The Hollywood Reporter

HOWARD KISSEL of the NEW YORK DAILY NEWS says "There's no point in beating around the bush — I had a great time."
CLIVE BARNES of THE NEW YORK POST says "It's a show still dynamically alive in music while, as a drama, it catches the very texture, almost the actual smell, of its time. "
CHRIS JONES of CHICAGO TRIBUNE says "They'd better start digging more tunnels from New Jersey, because when word gets out on this thing, every Garden State wiseguy is going to be calling for a limo and adding to the traffic clog."
MICHAEL SOMMERS of STAR-LEDGER says "Love classic rock 'n' roll? Enjoy juicy behind-the-scenes true stories? Then without a doubt -- and especially for Baby Boomers -- "Jersey Boys" is a hot new Broadway show for you."
JACQUES LE SOURD of the JOURNAL NEWS says "The book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice is a little long on narration, and you may find your eyes glazing over until the point, two-thirds of the way through the first act, when the boys break into television with an appearance on "American Bandstand." From that point on, though, you snap awake and happily ride the wave."
MICHAEL FEINGOLD of the VILLAGE VOICE says "For a new musical, Jersey Boys seems amazingly like a rerun."
ELYSA GARDNER of USA TODAY says "Flawed but unexpectedly winning homage to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons"
MICHAEL KUCHWARA of ASSOCIATED PRESS says "Shows there still is theatrical life in mining pop hits from the past."
FRANK SCHECK of the HOLLYWOOD REPORTER says "Director Des McAnuff has delivered a fast-paced production that flows in cinematic fashion, thankfully avoiding the bombast that afflicts so many similarly themed musicals."

LaChanze (as Diva Donna), Ariana DeBose (as Disco Donna), Storm Lever (as Duckling Donna), Aaron Krohn (as Neil), Ken Robinson (as Andrew Gaines), and Jared Zirilli (as Bruce Sudano)Commentaires : With songs from the back-catalogue of the five-time Grammy Award-winner, Summer tells the story of Donna Summer, who, after selling 140 million records worldwide, was one of the best-selling artists of all time. She was known as the Queen of Disco and for her hits such as “Love to Love You Baby,” "I Feel Love," “Hot Stuff,” “Bad Girls,” "She Works Hard for the Money," "Last Dance," and “MacArthur Park,” among many others, but this crowd-pleasing bio-musical allows a deeply personal insight into the woman behind the dancefloor fillers.
From childhood molestation to domestic abuse to corporate exploitation, Ms. Summer never had an easy road to stardom thanks to many of the men in her life, but Summer explores the ways she, as a woman in a male-dominated industry, took control of her own career and her own destiny. Her story is narrated by three actresses in the title role (Tony Award winner LaChanze as 'Diva Donna,' Ariana DeBose as 'Disco Donna' and Storm Lever as 'Duckling Donna') who represent Donna at various points in her lifetime and who also effortlessly slip into other roles such as Donna's mother or daughter. They break the fourth wall and create an easy rapport with the audience, as she confides in us her secrets and secret longings. And there doesn't seem to be any topic off limits, even addressing her leaving her first child to pursue her career and an unfortunate homophobic slur that caused a well-documented backlash against her.

The writer-director, Des McAnuff, had softened the story of the young boy who loses all his senses when , at the age of four, he witnesses his father killing his mother’s lover. Unable to communicate, abused by his family and the town louts, he somehow becomes a pinball wizard. Eventually he recovers his senses and develops into a messianic superstar. At the end of the show he returns to the bosom of his family. The production was notable for many stunning stage and lighting effects.
Die-hard Who fans complained that this version removed all the passion, fire and rage of the original, written at the time of Woodstock and the Vietnam War, when the only solution to the ills of society was to drop out. However, this version had opened to ecstatic reviews on Broadway in 1993 and ran for 899 performances . This spectacular London revival received very mixed notices, although there were rave notices for newcomer Paul Keating in the title role. It came off after just under a year, with a considerable financial loss - but shortly after it closed it won three Olivier Awards (Outstanding Musical, Best Director and Best Lighting).
