Presque à la suite de Cyrano de Bergerac, Herbert a écrit un nouveau spectacle pour Alice Nielsen.

Le duc, malheureux en amour, décrète que dorénavant tous les amants doivent être autorisés. S’ils sont pris en train de faire l’amour sans autorisation, ils doivent se marier ou aller en prison à vie. Le premier couple (Greta et Otto) arrange les choses pour tout le monde, c’est-à-dire qu’ils arrangent tout le monde (y compris le duc).
