Billed as a “fictional account of what might have been” this is a story of the real-life Ernest Hemingway and his fourth wife, Mary, with two invented characters, a sexy secretary, Louella, who would like to become wife number five, and a film producer, Rex de Havilland , who is trying to buy the film rights to Hemingway’s life. It takes place in flashback, mostly centred on the days before Hemingway’s suicide, and suggesting some reasons why the great author might have decided to kill himself.
