Commentaires : "The Most Happy Fella" avait fermé à Broadway un peu plus d’un an avant le revival par la New York City Center Light Opera Company. Comme d’autres reprises de la compagnie (comme "The Pajama Game" et "Say, Darling"), cela semblait un peu tôt pour un revival mais au moins cette production a donné une autre occasion d’entendre la partition de Loesser à New York.
Pour ce revival, Art Lund a recréé son rôle original de Joe (Joey), et un an plus tard, il a repris le rôle pour la première à Londres; Cleo a été interprétée par Libi Staiger, qui est également apparue dansla version londonienne. Le revival marque les débuts à New York de Bernadette Peters; un an plus tôt, elle avait été vue lors de l’essai de "This Is Goggle", qui avait fermé en Try-Out.

Commentaires : En 1991, le Goodspeed Opera House d’East Haddam, dans le Connecticut, a produit la première version double piano de l’œuvre, et l’année suivante, le spectacle a été présenté à Broadway. En 1956, il y avait des spéculations sur la question de savoir si "The Most Happy Fella" était un opéra plutôt qu'un musical traditionnel. À l’époque, beaucoup estimaient qu’il était d’une importance vitale de classifier ce spectacle hybride qui chevauchait entre les mondes de l’opéra et des musicals, un argument qui remontait à 1935 avec Porgy et Bess (à ce jour, l’œuvre de Gershwin subit encore la vieille question de l’opéra ou musical). Mais c’est vraiment Loesser lui-même qui devrait avoir le dernier mot sur "The Most Happy Fella": les notes du programme pour ce revival qu’il a appelé l’œuvre «un musical — avec beaucoup de musique».
