New Amsterdam Theatre
Herts & Tallant, architects. Built by Klaw & Erlanger. With its elaborate architecture and decor, it brought Art Nouveau to Broadway. Beginning in 1913, Ziegfeld brought his "Follies" to the New Amsterdam. In 1937, with the heyday of the revue in the past, it became a movie palace. In 1982, it earned landmark status and was purchased by the Nederlanders who sold it to the state in 1992. Disney performed extensive renovations before reopening the theatre in 1997.
