Commentaires : This is a revised version of the 1933 play “The Great Hussar”. With gipsy songs and dances, a major ballet performance, dramatic revolution scenes, and Cossack dancing it was a great critical and popular success.
An MGM film version was made in 1939 starring Nelson Eddy and Ilona Massey using a new score made up of songs by Sigmund Romberg. Only one song, “At the Balalaika” remained from the original stage show.
